April 19, 2004Soft Opposition to KerryI agree with Michael Totten on just about everything. Michael Totten says that he agrees with Roger Simon on just about everything. I guess that means I need to start reading Roger Simon. On March 2, Totten wrote that "Until further notice, this blog officially supports George W. Bush for president in 2004." Today in a post titled "None of the Above" Totten writes that "I don’t like John Kerry, but I don’t hate the man either. I'm one of the very few people who feels exactly the same way about President Bush." He also describes his opposition to Kerry as "soft." Mine too. At this point, I could strongly support Kerry if (1) he talks consistently and convincingly about the need to see things through in Iraq, and (2) he offers some real proposals for controlling spending. Those two things, along with my general feeling that divided government is a good thing and my general support of Democrats on social issues and environmental issues, would make it an easy choice. I just get the feeling that Kerry is not going to make it easy for me. Posted by Todd Pearson at April 19, 2004 08:33 PMComments
I find myself, for the first time since I can remember, softening towards a Democratic candidate. At this point, I am still mostly undecided, but I'm leaning toward Bush. I don't want to, but I'm just not that sanguine about Kerry... yet. Unfortunately, I agree with you that Kerry will probably not make it easy. Posted by: Heather Feuerhelm at April 19, 2004 10:17 PMHere's a surprisingly good editorial by the very liberal Derrick Jackson about how Kerry still needs to define himself and not just bash Bush http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2004/04/20/kerrys_anybody_but_bush_trap/ Posted by: rickheller at April 20, 2004 07:49 AMI respected his father's policies generally much more. Am a swing type voter depending with a preference for moderate candidate with what determins are the lesser bad effects. Kerry leans toward the liberal side. He comes from a libeeral state and overspending state. Do the rest of you know that Kerry also thinks that kids of illegals should have all the same benefits of rest of citizens and longtime citizens (another topic for sure)? So far in each state, the citizens have blocked driver's licenses. Jebb's state was the most recent where blocked. When are we going to talk about Tax structure Has been so trying for me dealing with wannabes They did not learn from what my ancestors advised.
Right now, the divided government argument is the only one I find compelling. If not for Iraq, it would send me towards Kerry. Posted by: bk at April 21, 2004 08:15 AMThe divided government argument is one of the few arguments that would send me towards Kerry. Another is that Kerry should be able to get along better with many of our allies. These two are not enough to overcome my strong negative feelings about him.
