April 08, 2004Armageddon PlanThe Washington Post reports: An "Armageddon" program designed to ensure that the federal government would continue to function in the aftermath of a nuclear war was put into place during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.I wonder how the spinners will handle this. Will those who called Bush "chicken" for not returning to DC apologize? Will the Administration, which says Clarke is a liar, embrace his remarks? What I want to know is why it took this long for this amazing story to come out, and why it is not getting more attention now. Posted by: Todd Pearson at April 8, 2004 08:34 AMWhat am I missing here? I just assumed everyone knew that the government has detailed contingency plans for a wide variety of emergency situations, and guidelines for enacting them. I don't see why this is a "story." (People who called Bush a chicken are simply disgraces, and there's no reason to expect apologies from them.) I also don't think it's an especially good idea for details of such plans to be made public, since their effectiveness surely relies at least in part upon keeping these details classified. We don't want our enemies to be able to use the freedom of information act to get documents that help them predict how we'll respond to terrorist emergency situations.
